The crypt once housed the tombs of early Venetian doges and, according to tradition, the body of San Zaccaria. Due to its location below sea level, it is often flooded during acqua alta.
Chiesa di San Zaccaria is a quiet, beautiful church that’s definitely worth a visit. It’s packed with Renaissance art and has some stunning pieces by Bellini and Carpaccio. What’s nice is it’s not too crowded, so you can really enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.
